Flow of the Week - Eagle Pose
This week's Flow of the Week is Eagle-themed. All things cross legged and cross armed!
Tips for Eagle Pose:
Which side goes on top?: Should the arm and leg on the same side be below or should the arm and leg on opposite sides be below? The short answer is that there is no definitive must-do way. Try both ways and see which works best for you. I personally learnt it with the arm and leg on the same side below (i.e. right leg standing = right arm wrapped below) and find this way more intuitive for me.
Hips: Keep hips square to the front of the room, hip of the wrapping leg should not twist forward. If your foot doesn't wrap all the way behind your calf, don't force it by compensating from the hips. Just keep legs crossed.
Shoulders: If shoulders are tight, the pose can be modified by catching the thumb of one hand with the second and third fingers of the other. Once in the pose, pull elbows upwards to create a deep stretch on the upper back and across the shoulder blades.
Balancing: Rest the toe of the wrapping leg on the floor or block to stabilize yourself while you work on your balance. You can also use a wall for further support.
